A Fine Day In Saint-Joseph-du-Lac

Verger Lacroix

It might be hard to believe with the amazing summer weather we still have daily but fall is about to start in 3 days. I just love this crisp season as there are so many reasons to get out of town, like going apple picking! My favorite area for this type of activity is definitely around Saint-Joseph-du-Lac which has tons of orchards but also La Maison Lavande and Quebec’s wildest sugar shack, La Cabane à Sucre Au Pied de Cochon. I spent a good part of my day there yesterday and the 3 stops that follow made it quite a…

Discovering Louisiana In Four Days

Louisiana in 3 days

Guys, I finally made it to Louisiana! I’ve been meaning to visit New Orleans for years now and I finally did at the end of June with friends. Two of us flew in directly from Montreal and the other two courageously drove down from Fort Lauderdale so we could all start discovering NOLA together as of June 24th. The goal was to stay for a day and then drive west towards Baton Rouge and Lafayette but our itinerary quickly changed which was totally cool as we had a car to get us everywhere and booked rooms as we went. We…

My First Olive Oil Tasting Evening with Flavor Your Life and Zucchi

Zucchi - Olive Oil Tasting

I’ve been to my share of wine tasting events but never olive oil! Valeria Pili from Zucchi was the perfect person to introduce us to it and it really made me look differently at a product I use daily in my life. It was great to hear how they already worked with new technologies to bring transparency to their products by giving a trace of each olive oil on their website. Here’s how the evening went…

The New Portus360 Does Not Disappoint

portus

Chef Helena Loureiro’s Portus Calle was my favorite restaurant when I worked at the corner of Rachel and St-Laurent. Whenever I had a meeting, I would make it happen there because I knew the service would be on point and we would feast without feeling too full. It was sort of sad to hear that they were leaving the Main back in October to move at the junction of Old Montreal and Griffintown. However, since I visited about two weeks ago, I now know it’s for the best and the restaurant’s new view is kind of breathtaking..! Since I’ve only visited Portus…

A Wine With A Different Story

Toscana Gorgona - Frescobaldi

The Frescobaldi family organized a very special evening in April to share a project they are quite proud of, and for good reason. I’ll be honest, I had never heard of Marchesi de Frescobaldi wines before last month even though they have been around since 1308! Frescobaldi per Gorgona is a social project that started in 2012 on the island of Gorgona, the last prison island in Italy. The prisoners, about 50 so far who are reaching the end of their sentence, get a special opportunity to learn the techniques of wine making with the help of masters part of the Frescobaldi company. This…

Where To 5 à 7 In Montreal When You Don’t Really Drink

MBAM - Popcorn

Over the past two years, I have found myself drinking less and less. Don’t get me wrong, I can still enjoy a good glass of red wine with a nice meal. But when I meet my friends during happy hours, I simply have no interest in drinking too many cocktails. It makes me remember that last November, I visited a friend in Florida and we ended up trying a trendy pub in Wildwood. To my surprise, they were serving Kombucha on tap and it just made my night! So anyway, now that we’ve established that I’ve become one of those…
