How I Take Control Of My Health
This past year has been dedicated to completing a bunch of different tests on my hearing, sight and overall health. Since I aim to use every additional year of my life to improve my health, and not the contrary, it’s been important to me to make sure that everything’s good and if it’s not, that I take the right steps in fixing the situation.
Since getting most of my results:
I started wearing glasses on long days on my computer;
I am in the process of finding the correct hearing aid for my left ear, which could fix back pain I’ve been having a few times per year;
and I started supplementing with a lot of Vitamin D to fix a possible deficiency.
Most of these tests were done outside of the public health system to accelerate getting results and also receiving more data faster. However, I had never visited a private blood testing lab and that’s when Dynacare came in right at the perfect moment!
They got in touch with me a few weeks ago to see if I’d like to experience their services by completing a Wellness Test that includes Glucose, Cholesterol, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Ferritin, and Hemoglobin A1C. It was perfect for me, especially to confirm how my vitamin D level was after taking supplements.
Dynacare has plenty of locations all over Montreal. I chose their Westmount centre because it was easy to get to it from Griffintown. Plus, there are so many cute shops & restaurants all around to hang out before & after.
It was pretty helpful to find out that they had parking on location but it only took me two minutes to find free parking close by.
Once I made it to the fourth floor, it was super easy to find the lab. The nice lady who checked me in was also the nurse who drew blood from me. I really liked dealing with the same person from beginning to end and I was able to ask her all the questions I had in mind.
There was nobody else before me so the whole visit took a big five minutes. Before leaving, the nurse gave me a personal code to use on their app so I could see my results within 24 hours. I installed the app the day after on my phone and as promised, my results were already available. Dynacare really made this whole process simple & modern!
I was able to see that two numbers were abnormal and I will be seeing a doctor to discuss these next week but I’m not worried! I also saw that my Vitamin D supplemental efforts worked as my numbers are much better now. I know it can only improve in the future.
It was such a breeze to go through this whole process of getting an appointment, showing up on the day & time that worked for me and then accessing my results the same day on my phone.
When I think about all the early mornings I have spent waiting in a miserable hospital room with many people not doing so well, it’s hard to not want to use private services in the future. It’s one thing when you’re dealing with an illness and need health care. But what about when you’re trying to improve your health to avoid being sick ever?
Of course, doing these are not free but if you have insurance, it’s most likely covered already in your plan. If you’re a freelancer like me, then we’re talking about $120 to $150. I was told that the prices get adjusted based on how many tests are needed and you can easily call a centre to get a quote for your specific needs.
Feel free to comment below if you’ve got any questions about my experience!
