What's In My Home Bar These Days

bar.jpg

If you're not into stories, skip to the list now! First of, if you've been following the blog, you'll know that I hardly drink these days. Unless I'm out for a special occasion or at a media event where the actual product is alcohol, I will skip out on that drink so I can stay on track at the gym and on my diet.

I've been really strict on my body since fall 2013, when I started Crossfit and sort of reprogrammed my lifestyle. Celebrating 3 years of mostly clean eating and weekly workouts (at the box or elsewhere), I've come to a realization that if I'm to stay this way for the rest of my life, some small changes need to be made so I can enjoy life fully.

The biggest change is my openness to alcohol and going out for a drink. Because I never want to ruin next day's workout or my work productivity, I kind of automatically say no to anything that involves alcohol and late hours. For a while, this worked for me but after 3 years, I realize I've missed out on so many social gatherings with friends that I truly care for.

Considering I used to be the main person to organize pre-drinks, it only makes sense for me to build a decent collection of bottles to have guests over this fall! So here's what I got so far ;)

Mionetto Prosecco

I received this bottle from the company a few weeks ago and I love it. Seriously, it's my new staple for a celebration drink. Sold at SAQ for only $18.95, why spend 4-5 times the price on Champagne when you can grab a couple of those? And if you believe that when it comes to bubbles, only Champagne is good, here's a little article that could change your mind. Remember that you're paying for a region of the world and not a quality standard. (But Laurent-Perrier will always be my number 1 Champagne!)

Norman Hardie Riesling 2015

Norman Hardie

I visited Norman Hardie early September while spending the long weekend in Prince Edward County. I came to try and buy Pinot Noir but ended up staying for the Riesling and pizza! I will write more about this place soon in a travel article about PEC. Until then, here's a fun fact: the wine served at Joe Beef from comes this place!

Closson Chase was also part of my Prince Edward County trip and this time, I bought the 2013 Pinot Noir! More about this place soon ;)

Last bottle bought from my PEC trip, this cider comes from the prettiest orchard I have visited so far. I also bought a bottle of their Blood Orange cider but wasn't a fan of it after all. This one's a keeper though.

Jack Daniel's Gentlemen Jack

I received this very cool bottle from Jack Daniel's to promote their Barrel Hunt, which ends on September 30th. I'm so happy to have one bottle of whiskey because I used to be a big scotch and bourbon fan.

Bù by Jessica Harnois

 Bù

I went to the popup launch of the Bù wines that are selected by the awesome Jessica Harnois. My favorite wine event is still the wine tasting party she threw a few years ago at Impasto. What's cool about these wines is that they're sold in grocery stores AND in SAQs (except for Glissando which is only found in grocery stores). I never dare buying wines in grocery stores but considering I tasted all of those, I'm happy to recommend and choose this brand.

This wraps my little collection for now. I do have my eyes on the Kraken rum and Bulleit bourbon, two products I have had before and love!
